Antes: lo único que unía a los artistas invitados en mi
sitio es que eran mexicanos, ahora, en este bloque en específico,
lo único que los une es que hablan de México.
Replantearse la etiqueta de un espacio concebido como “videoarte
mexicano en línea” dentro de un medio que se presta para
saltarse fronteras y etiquetas geográficas, es medular en el
ejercicio por conformar una comunidad global de gente interesada en
el videoarte, sea cual sea su origen geográfico. Que mejor pretexto
para romper dicho esquema que una liga temática al parámetro
inicial que agrupaba a los artistas invitados.
Esto
no es una curaduría porque no hay términos curatoriales
que hagan que una obra entre a la exhibición o no. Simplemente
se extendió la invitación a varios videastas extranjeros
a realizar un trabajo bajo las siguientes limitantes:
1. De menos de 1.5 megas.
2. En formato Quicktime.
3. Respondiendo a la palabra “MEXICO”.

Before: the only thing that artists invited to my site had in common
was that they were Mexicans. Now, in this specific block, all that they
have in common is that they talk about Mexico. Re-thinking the label
of a space conceived of as "Mexican videoart online," in the
context of a medium that lends itself to leaping over frontiers and
geographical labels, is central to the exercise of putting together
a world community made up of people interested in videoart, regardless
of their geographic origin. What better pretext for breaking up such
a structure than a thematic link to the inicial parameter that grouped
the invited artists.
This
is not a curatorship because there are no curatorial criteria that make
a work enter into an exhibit or not. An invitation was simply extended
to various foreign videomakers (videoartists?) to do a project with
the following characteristics:
1. That it be less than 1.5 megas.
2. In Quicktime format.
3. Responding to the word "MEXICO".
